Portfolio rebalancing

Compare the current allocation with IPS targets and bands to see which asset classes are within, approaching or outside the plan.

What it does

The drift analysis compares each asset class's share of the classified portfolio with the targets and tolerance bands in your active Investment Policy Statement (IPS). Each class is marked as within, approaching or outside its band. Opening a class shows the positions contributing to it.

Values are converted to the portfolio home currency before weights are calculated. Exposure that cannot be classified is kept separate rather than assigned to an arbitrary class.

If there is no active IPS, the detailed drift view labels its comparison as a fallback and invites you to configure a plan. The compact dashboard card does not present fallback bands as if they were your targets.

The detailed view also generates suggested buy and sell amounts, with estimated fees and the reason for each suggestion.

What it does not do

  • It does not place orders with a broker or move money.
  • It does not automatically change your holdings when an asset class leaves its band.
  • The current portfolio workspace does not complete the execution step or record the suggested trades as transactions.
  • Suggested trades are a mechanical result of the IPS values and recorded holdings. They do not decide that rebalancing is suitable for you.

Known limits

  • Without an active IPS, fallback targets are only a temporary comparison and are not a personal policy.
  • Class weights use only the classified portion of the portfolio. Missing classification appears separately as unclassified exposure.
  • Missing exchange rates can leave holdings out of both the class weights and the reported total without a partial-result indicator.
  • Fund look-through depends on available allocation metadata. Without it, the holding may be classified only at a broader level.
  • The detailed drift card is available on portfolio-detail surfaces, while the main portfolio workbench's plan view is still a limited path into IPS setup.
  • Review prices and source data before acting: the analysis reflects recorded holdings, not a broker-confirmed balance.
